Solutex, Inc. Receives EPA’s Partner of the Year Award

Release Date: June 12, 2015

STERLING, VIRGINIA- Solutex, Inc., a janitorial and facility maintenance supply company, was named a 2015 Safer Choice Partner of the Year Award Winner for its outstanding achievement in the design, promotion, and sale of cleaning and facility maintenance products that are safer for families, workplaces, communities, and the environment.  The President, Charles Moody said, “We are very honored to receive this award and are grateful to our customers and formulating partners who have made it possible.”  Solutex, Inc. is among the 21 Safer Choice Partner of the Year award winners announced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for this year.

Partner of the Year award winners represent a wide variety of leadership organizations, such as Fortune 500 companies, small- and medium-sized businesses, state governments, and non-governmental organizations. The 2015 Safer Choice Partner of the Year Awards will be presented during a public ceremony on June 22, 2015 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC.

All types of businesses are looking into “going green”. Property Management companies are increasingly asking for green alternatives to the products that they are currently using.  Solutex has been at the forefront of the movement to “go greener”. In 2012, they became the first Champion Partner with the EPA’s Safer Detergent Stewardship Initiative (SDSI). This means that all of the products offered by Solutex use safer surfactants and meet or exceed the EPA’s standards. These surfactants break down to non-polluting compounds that are much safer for the environment than their alternative.

Solutex is proud to be a Partner of the Year with the EPA. You can read more about Solutex and the Partner of the Year Award at http://www2.epa.gov/saferchoice/safer-choice-partner-year-awards

Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative (SDSI)

sdsi_logo.jpg    dfe_logo.jpg

Solutex, Inc. has exciting news for the environment and public health! As an EPA Design for the Environment (DfE) partner, and in conjunction with the Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative (SDSI) program, effective July 1, 2012 all of the cleaning and chemical products that we sell will be free of commonly used surfactants known as APE's (alkylphenol ethoxylates) and NPE's (nonylphenol ethoxylates). These surfactants do not biodegrade quickly and are more toxic to aquatic life than newer, more advanced, safer surfactants known as LAE's (linear alcohol ethoxylate). LAE's break down quickly into non-polluting compounds and effective July 1, 2012 we will only sell products containing these safer surfactants.

We at Solutex, Inc. take pride in the high performance of our products and have found that all products that we had reformno_ape_npe_circle.jpgulated to meet our new standard performed better or faster than the previous formula. As an EPA DfE partner many resources have been made available to us. Some of these are the team of dedicated chemists from the EPA'S DfE, the Cleangredients website, and the SDSI formulator listing.

Using cleaning products that contain safer surfactants is an easy way that customers can make a greater impact to help the environment. Solutex is happy to be a resource to help or guide any customers who may want to identify products in their facility that could be replaced with a safer, non APE, NPE product. We would also be happy to help or guide other distributors who are interested in adopting this initiative.

Rock Creek Park Clean-Up

Thank you to all who joined us onSaturday, April 6, 2013 at 8:30am to clean up Rock Creek Park! We worked in conjunction with the Alice Ferguson Foundation's Potomac River Watershed Cleanup and the Rock Creek Conservancy's Rock Creek Extreme Cleanup.

Together, we were able to remove 112 bags of trash, 29 bags of recyclables, and an estimated 300lbs of loose trash! We even found the bumper from a BMW!

live_green_no_writing_good_small.jpg"Live Green, Give Green" is our own environmentally responsible seal of approval. Most of the products that show this seal in our catalog have been tested by a third party, verifying their greener attributes and the safer processes of their manufacture.

Similar earth-friendly seals used by many large chemical manufacturers can be very costly, ranging in fees of $750 to $5,000 per product per year, even when the exact same formula is being used under a different brand name.  The fees can really add up, making these greener products much more expensive than they need to be.

Our goal with "Live Green, Give Green" is to provide products with the strictest green standards at a competitive price and to donate a percentage of the sale of these products to a few approved "Environmental Charities" that effectively use these funds to support the environment.

For each "Live Green, Give Green" product purchased we will donate a portion of the proceeds to the following charities:

  • Humane Farm Animal Care, a national non-profit 501(c)3 organization based in Herndon, Virginia created to improve the lives of farm animals by setting rigorous standards, conducting annual inspections, and certifying their humane treatment. www.certifiedhumane.org/
  • The Turtle Hospital is an organization dedicated to rehabilitating and re-releasing injured sea turtles back in to the wild. www.turtlehospital.org
